SAMI Training Programs
The Shipbuilding / Marine Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) was established by New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) to train workers hired by regional manufacturers. Skills for Rhode Island’s Future will help you fast-track your application and enroll in a train-to-hire SAMI program with job placement assistance.

The SAMI Machinist Training Program is a 10-week free classroom training and shop experience that prepares participants for entry-level positions in advanced manufacturing careers with employers throughout Rhode Island. Candidates will learn new skills including OSHA 10 certification, CNC and manual machine processes, reading blueprints, drill press, lathe/turning, vertical milling, surface grinding, and job preparation.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Rhode Island Resident
- Unemployed/underemployed
- At least 18 years of age
- Enjoys physically demanding work
- Willing to comply with safety procedures
- Excellent work ethic
SAMI Welding Training Program at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT)
The SAMI Welding Training Program is a free 7-week classroom and shop training that prepares participants for entry-level welding positions in various industries throughout Rhode Island. Candidates will learn new skills including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-corded arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), oxy-fuel welding (OFC) processes, Shop safety, welding and cutting safety, safely handling fuel gasses and high-pressure cylinders. SAMI has connected over 450 program participants to jobs with their 110 participating companies.

Candidates will learn new skills including OSHA 10 certification, CNC operations and manual machine processes, reading blueprints, CAD and MasterCAM, drill press, lathe/turning, vertical milling, surface grinding, and job preparation. SAMI has connected over 450 program participants to jobs with their 110 participating companies.
